A Month with a Blog Manager
The phrase “blog manager” might be foreign. After all, it is sort of something I made up. But not out of thin air. No, I’ve been a blog manager for a few years now – my clients just call me a virtual assistant or copywriter. I’ve discovered, however, that writing a blog is essentially just managing it. From the initial planning through the actual writing, all the way to hitting schedule or publish, I am handling every aspect of the blog. So it makes sense to call me a blog manager; it’s a little more all-encompassing, giving a complete picture of the work I do. So what does that work look like? To give you an idea, here is a break down of a month with a blog manager.
One Month with a Blog Manager
Though your blog and business may need a few other items not mentioned here, this breakdown is fairly comprehensive. Additionally, I’d like to note that I prefer working at least one month ahead of time. Meaning, your July content will be written, scheduled, etc. in June.
Week 1
The blog (or blogs) draft will be written and submitted for approval. I will put some basic pull quotes into our shared communication system (Asana, Slack, etc.). And start brainstorming social media posts. Any photos and links needed will be requested from and discussed with you if they are not already available.
Week 2
Any changes requested for the blog(s) will be completed and each draft will be uploaded to the publishing platform. Over the next few days, your blog manager will format and edit the blog, source photos, source and insert links, curate shopping boards (if applicable), communicate with affiliates (if applicable), and work on SEO.
Week 3
For the most part, see Week 2. However, this is also a fantastic time to meet virtually to discuss the next batch of content, any newsletters needed, and finalize social media posts. Any included and requested social media posts will be compiled, captions written, and uploaded and scheduled. If you have a newsletter that I help with, then we will talk about that, and I will work on finalizing that as well.
Week 4
The wind down. We utilize this final week as “extra” time to make any other edits and finalize all content. This is another great time for our monthly meeting. However, it’s also a great week for using up your allotted 5 hours of administration time for various other tasks related to your blog.
Another Month with a Blog Manager
And then the process starts all over again! Ideally, we will work together to establish a concrete content plan in your very first month working with me, so we can easily slip into the next batch of blog content without missing a beat.
This process may vary depending on your blog content, how often you publish, and the degree of your involvement in the writing process. However, my goal as your blog manager is to streamline the whole process and take tasks off your hands so you can focus on developing the content itself, testing products, developing recipes, or doing whatever inspired your blog in the first place!
